JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Jamestown women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Minnesota State Saturday afternoon at the Two Rivers Activity Center.
With the loss, the Jimmies' overall record falls to 3-4, with a 3-3 mark in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. Minnesota State remains undefeated in the conference, improving to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in the NSIC.
Minnesota State secured a point by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Jamestown found success at the No. 1 position, where the duo of
Bodil van Zeijl and
Julie van Zeijl battled to a 7-5 victory over Julia Gurholt and McKenna DeMarce.
However, the Mavericks claimed the remaining courts. At the No. 2 spot, Lucie Sliskova and Alma Vazquez defeated
Laia Vallespi and
Sydney Friesen 6-0. Taina Cordeiro and Amanda Blanco-Epple secured the No. 3 doubles match with a 6-3 win against
Anna Sharandachenko and
Mariia Sharandachenko.
In singles play, the van Zeijl sisters continued their strong form by taking the top two flights for the Jimmies.
Julie van Zeijl defeated Julia Gurholt 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles,
Bodil van Zeijl secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory over McKenna DeMarce.
The Mavericks claimed the final four singles matches to close out the dual win. At No. 3 singles, Lucie Sliskova defeated
Mariia Sharandachenko 6-1, 6-2. Alma Vazquez picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over
Anna Sharandachenko at the No. 4 flight.
The most competitive singles match occurred at the No. 5 position, where Amanda Blanco-Epple outlasted
Laia Vallespi in a tight three-set battle, winning 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. Taina Cordeiro rounded out the scoring for Minnesota State at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over
Sydney Friesen.
