Jimmies fall to Quincy in Saturday matinee

QUINCY, Ill. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team was swept by Quincy University on Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Arena.

The Jimmies (6-15, 0-4 GLVC) battled through closely contested stretches but ultimately dropped all three sets to the host team (7-6, 4-0 GLVC) by scores of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-19.

Set-by-Set Highlights
  • Set 1 (Quincy 25, Jamestown 21): The opening frame was a back-and-forth affair featuring five ties. The Jimmies kept the pressure on, matching Quincy point-for-point late into the set to tie the game at 18-18 following a kill from Chase Hawkinson. However, Quincy responded immediately with a crucial 3-0 run—fueled by an Isaiah Travis service ace—to take a 21-18 lead. The hosts maintained that cushion, closing out the set on a kill by Barnabas Fenyvesi.

  • Set 2 (Quincy 25, Jamestown 21): After four early ties, Quincy gained separation and built an 11-6 advantage. Jamestown fought back to trim the deficit, stringing together a 3-0 run midway through the set highlighted by a Lucas Soeldner service ace to make it 13-10. The Jimmies continued to chip away, pulling within three points at 20-17 and again at 21-18 after a kill by Soeldner, but a final service error from Jamestown ended the comeback threat.

  • Set 3 (Quincy 25, Jamestown 19): Quincy jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, anchored by back-to-back points from Bauer Larson. Jamestown stabilized and kept the margin manageable, cutting the Quincy lead to 13-10 following a kill by Ladarius Williams. Late in the set, the Jimmies narrowed the gap to 21-18 after an attack error by Quincy's Travis. The hosts shut the door from there, finishing the match on a 4-1 run capped by a kill from Fenyvesi.
