Jimmies show grit in three-set matchup against Missouri S&T

ROLLA, Mo. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team was swept by Missouri S&T on Friday afternoon at Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.

The Jimmies (6-16, 0-5 GLVC) dropped all three sets to the Miners (9-5, 3-2 GLVC) by scores of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-23.

Set-by-set highlights

Set 1 (Missouri S&T 25, Jamestown 13):
Missouri S&T took control early, jumping out to a commanding lead behind a strong service run and efficient offense. The Jimmies struggled to find rhythm, hitting negative for the set. Jamestown found a bit of momentum late with kills from Ladarius Williams and Chase Hawkinson, but the Miners closed the set comfortably.

Set 2 (Missouri S&T 25, Jamestown 15):
The Miners carried their momentum into the second set, building an early advantage and maintaining control throughout. Jamestown showed flashes with a short run midway through the set, highlighted by a kill from Cohen Johnson and a service ace from Rowan Shaughnessy, but Missouri S&T responded quickly to keep the lead. A late push from the Jimmies wasn't enough as the Miners secured a 2-0 match lead.

Set 3 (Missouri S&T 25, Jamestown 23):
Jamestown delivered its strongest performance in the final set, battling point-for-point and keeping the score tight throughout. The Jimmies hit .333 in the frame, with key contributions from Chase Hawkinson and Ladarius Williams. Trailing late, Jamestown cut the deficit to 24-23, but Missouri S&T closed out the match on the next point to complete the sweep.

Statistical Leaders

Chase Hawkinson led the Jimmies with 10 kills, while Ladarius Williams contributed six kills and a team-high nine digs. Lucas Soeldner added four kills and four digs, while Cohen Johnson anchored the net with four block assists.

Setting duties were shared, with Rowan Shaughnessy recording 18 assists and Cristian Sotelo adding support in the offense. Defensively, Jamestown totaled 29 digs and six team blocks.

As a team, the Jimmies hit .095 overall, improving each set after early struggles.

Missouri S&T finished with a .330 hitting percentage, led by Nate Meyer's 13 kills and Aaron Sallade's 11. Grant Edmonds directed the offense with 34 assists, while the Miners totaled 42 kills and 38 digs as a team.
