SIOUX CENTER, IA – Showing incredible heart and resilience, the University of Jamestown Jimmies roared back from the brink of defeat to secure a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Viterbo University at De Witt Gymnasium.
The Jimmies demonstrated championship poise after dropping two closely contested opening sets. Refusing to back down, Jamestown ignited a furious rally in the third frame, hitting a spectacular .444 with 15 kills to shift the momentum entirely. The Jimmies offensive engine reached peak efficiency in the fourth set, hitting .417, before they punctuated the afternoon with a dominant 15-6 clinical finish in the fifth set.
Chase Hawkinson led the way offensively for the Jimmies, finishing with a match-high 21 kills on 45 attempts. He added a solo block and five block assists, totaling 24.5 points on the afternoon. Ethan Carroll provided consistent production with nine kills and six blocks at the net, while Amery Roberts and Ladarius Williams combined for 14 kills and six service aces to keep the pressure on.
The offense was orchestrated by Kaden Jenkins, who recorded 37 assists and 13 digs, with Rowan Shaughnessy contributing eight assists. Defensively, Treyton Kaul anchored the back row with 12 digs, while Brady Leppien-Christensen chipped in six kills and nine block assists to help seal the spectacular comeback win.
Dordt University - Game 2
Facing a tough road test, the University of Jamestown Jimmies showed flashes of grit despite falling in straight sets to Dordt University (25-13, 25-19, 25-11) at De Witt Gymnasium on Friday evening.
The Jimmies demonstrated defensive tenacity throughout the match, particularly at the net where they recorded 6.0 total blocks. Jamestown found rhythm in the second set, utilizing strong serving to keep the score competitive and applying pressure on the Defenders' back row. In the third frame, the Jimmies displayed their trademark resilience, fighting through a series of intense rallies to briefly take a lead before Dordt was able to pull away late to seal the match.
Ladarius Williams led the way offensively for the Jimmies, finishing with a team-high five kills and seven total points on the evening. He added a solo block and two block assists while leading the floor defense with five digs. Chase Hawkinson contributed four kills and a solo block, while Ethan Carroll provided consistent production with three kills and two block assists at the net.
The offense was orchestrated by Kaden Jenkins, who recorded nine assists and four digs, with Rowan Shaughnessy contributing three assists. The Jimmies return to action on February 7th to wrap up their travel play in Sioux Center, Iowa. Jamestown will take on both Morningside University and Arizona Christian University to close out their weekend road trip.
