Jimmies defend home court as they take on Central Christian College

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team earned a straight-set win over Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday morning inside Harold Newman Arena, sweeping the Tigers 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-14). The Jimmies controlled the match from the opening points, finishing with a .337 team hitting percentage behind 42 kills and 37 assists while limiting Central Christian's offensive rhythm throughout all three sets.

UJ set the tone early in the opening frame, using aggressive serving and efficient attacking to build separation on the scoreboard. Jamestown hit .276 in the first set and piled up three service aces as it pushed to a 25-19 win. Rowan Shaughnessy consistently kept the offense in system, and the Jimmies attack found balance across multiple options as they established control.

The second set proved to be the most competitive, but Jamestown stayed steady through the middle stretch and executed down the line to secure a 25-21 decision. The Jimmies improved their efficiency to .346 in the set, continuing to generate quality looks at the net while keeping pressure on Central Christian with disciplined play. Chase Hawkinson and Ladarius Williams provided key swings as UJ maintained momentum heading into the break.

Jamestown closed the match emphatically in the third, turning in its best offensive set of the day with a .393 hitting clip while holding Central Christian to 14 points. The Jimmies surged ahead early and never looked back, finishing the sweep 25-14 to cap a clean overall performance on both sides of the ball.

Hawkinson led Jamestown with 12 kills, while Williams added eight kills and six digs. Brady Leppien-Christensen delivered an ultra-efficient seven kills on .778 hitting, and Shaughnessy paced the offense with 31 assists and two aces. Defensively, Jamestown recorded 24 digs and six total blocks, helping limit Central Christian to a .143 team hitting percentage in the match.

Game 2 

Riding the momentum from its morning sweep, the University of Jamestown men's volleyball team completed the doubleheader sweep of Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday afternoon with another straight-set victory inside Harold Newman Arena (25-22, 25-16, 25-12). After controlling game one earlier in the day, the Jimmies carried that energy into the second match, turning in an even more efficient offensive performance while dominating at the net defensively.

Jamestown overcame an early deficit in the opening set as Central Christian applied pressure from the service line to begin the match. The Jimmies stayed composed and gradually worked their way back into rhythm behind steady ball distribution and improved defensive play. UJ hit .296 in the first frame and closed strong down the stretch to secure the 25-22 win.

The second set is where Jamestown began to fully separate. The Jimmies elevated their efficiency to .417, tightened up their defensive coverage, and controlled the middle with consistent blocking presence. A series of extended runs allowed UJ to stretch the lead comfortably before finishing the set 25-16.

UJ finished the afternoon with its most efficient set of the match, hitting .429 in the third. Clean execution and balanced attacking allowed the Jimmies to close out the sweep with a 25-12 final.

Chase Hawkinson led the offense with 14 kills on .478 hitting, while Ethan Carroll delivered a highly efficient seven kills on .778 hitting along with two service aces. Joshua Crowley added seven kills on .500 hitting, and Ladarius Williams contributed nine kills, an ace, and six digs. Rowan Shaughnessy directed the offense with 27 assists and two aces as Jamestown finished with 41 kills, five service aces, 26 digs, and 12 total blocks.

With the pair of victories, the Jimmies secured the Saturday doubleheader sweep and continued building momentum heading into the next match up, March 3rd against Hastings College in Hastings, NE.
