Jamestown N.D— The University of Jamestown softball team continued its home stand in the Nelson Family Bubble Tournament #2 on Friday, moving its overall record to 6-1 after a dominant win over Concordia-Moorhead and a narrow, heart-wrenching loss to the University of Mary.
Game 1: Jamestown 7, Concordia-Moorhead 1
The Jimmies opened the day with a clinical performance, using a balanced attack and strong pitching to secure their sixth straight win.
The Lead: Jamestown scored in four consecutive innings to pull away for a 7-1 victory.
The Circle: Abby Blair was exceptional, earning her second win of the season by tossing 6.0 innings of one-run ball while striking out four. Maddie Hairgrove closed the door with a scoreless seventh.
The Bats: Sydney Grendler provided the power with a solo home run in the fifth inning. Trinity Gregg and Peyton Quam both recorded triples, with Gregg finishing 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Turning Point: After a scoreless first, the Jimmies exploded for three runs in the second inning. RBI hits from Tori Olson, Peyton Quam, and Trinity Gregg gave UJ a lead they would never surrender.
Game 2: UMary 3, Jamestown 2
In the nightcap, the Jimmies suffered their first setback of the season in a defensive duel that came down to the final frame.
The Lead: Despite out-hitting the Marauders 7-5, the Jimmies fell 3-2 after a late rally by UMary.
The Circle: Hope Ransome suffered a tough-luck loss, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing only one earned run while striking out four.
The Bats: Maddie Spaeth went 2-for-3 to lead the offense. Trinity Gregg scored the opening run of the game in the first inning following a single and a Marauder error.
The Turning Point: Holding a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth, the Jimmies saw the Marauders strike for three runs on three hits and an error. UJ attempted a comeback in the seventh, as Kate Geiszler drew a bases-loaded walk to cut the lead to one, but the Marauders' relief pitching managed to escape the jam.
