Jimmies post road win at Bemidji State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The University of Jamestown women's basketball team placed three players in double figures, led by 21 points apiece from Jessika Lofstrom and Allie Berns, to defeat Bemidji State 75-63 on Saturday afternoon at the Sanford Center.

The Jimmies (7-17, 5-15 NSIC) capitalized on a relentless defensive effort that forced 20 turnovers, converting them into 22 points to earn the road conference victory.

UJ established an early rhythm, taking a 22-17 lead after the first quarter. The defense tightened in the second period, holding the Beavers to 12 points as Jamestown took a 35-29 advantage into the locker room.

The offense picked up in the third quarter, with UJ scoring 23 points to extend their lead to 58-48 heading into the final frame. The Jimmies maintained their composure down the stretch, outscoring Bemidji State 17-15 in the fourth quarter to seal the 12-point win.

Lofstrom and Berns provided a dynamic one-two punch for Jamestown. Lofstrom finished with 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including three three-pointers, and added seven rebounds in 38 minutes. Berns matched her scoring output with 21 points, also grabbing seven rebounds while adding two blocks and two steals.

Samantha Paulsen joined them in double figures with 11 points, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Hali Savela filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds, and a game-high five assists.

Tieryn Plasch led all scorers with 23 points for Bemidji State (8-16, 5-15 NSIC), connecting on 8-of-15 shots from the field. Evyn Eppinga added 15 points and five rebounds for the Beavers.

The Jimmies took excellent care of the basketball, committing a season-low eight turnovers compared to 20 for Bemidji State. The battle on the boards was dead even, with both teams pulling down 38 rebounds. Jamestown was active on the offensive glass, securing 13 offensive rebounds. Jamestown shot 39.1 percent (27-of-69) from the field, while Bemidji State finished at 40.0 percent (20-of-50).

UJ returns home to host Minot State on Thursday, February 19 at 5:30 p.m.
