Bulldogs pull away from Jimmies in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Jamestown women's basketball team struggled to overcome a slow start and a barrage of three-pointers on Thursday night, falling 83-52 to Minnesota Duluth at Romano Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs (17-6, 15-4 NSIC) connected on 12 three-pointers and forced 22 turnovers to hand the Jimmies (6-17, 4-15 NSIC) the road loss.

UMD established control early, erupting for 28 points in the first quarter to build a double-digit lead. Jamestown stabilized in the second quarter, outscoring UMD 16-12 in the period to trim the deficit before halftime.

However, the momentum shifted back to the hosts after the break. Minnesota Duluth outscored the Jimmies 26-10 in the third quarter, extending their advantage and putting the game out of reach.

Allie Berns was a bright spot for Jamestown, leading the team with 16 points on 7-of-18 shooting. She also added six rebounds and two blocks in 28 minutes of action.

Haidyn Crockett joined Berns in double figures with 10 points and recorded two steals. Hali Savela contributed six points and four rebounds, hitting 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

Myra Moorjani led all scorers with 21 points for UMD, knocking down four three-pointers. Claire Bjorge filled the stat sheet with 18 points, six assists, and a game-high seven steals.

Ball security proved costly for Jamestown, as their 22 turnovers led to 26 points for the Bulldogs. Conversely, UMD committed just 12 turnovers.
