Minot, N.D. – Kacie Rexin won medalist honors, and the Jamestown women's golf team dominated the competition to win the Battle in the North by 42 strokes Tuesday afternoon at the Beowulf Golf Club.
The Jimmies shot a round of 324 (+40) after shooting 323 (+39) the previous day. Their total score in the two-round tournament was 647 (+79), by far their best event of the early season. Jamestown finished a considerable stroke-lead ahead of second place Minot State University (689).
Rexin got herself her third win of her career, shooting 77 (+6) both days for a total score of 154 (+12), narrowly beating Emily Watts of Minot State (155).
Ellie Garavaglia showed a tremendous improvement from the first day, shooting a team-best 75 (+4) in round two, improving from seventh place to all alone at third place. The senior's overall score was 160 (+18).
Lyla McCasson also shot much better in the second round, carding 82 (+11) in round two after she scored 88 (+17) on day one, jumping from outside the top ten to fifth overall. Kyndall Peterson golfed 90 (+19) in round two to finish as the fourth Jimmie scorer at 173 (+31).
Jaya Farlinger finished her first collegiate meet with a two-stroke improvement on day two to score 182 (+40) as she competed as an individual.
The Jimmies will have their final tournament of the fall season next week when they participate in the USF Fall Invitational beginning on Monday, October 12 at the Grand Falls Casino and Resort in Larchwood, Iowa.
