Minot, N.D. – Kacie Rexin leads the field, Celi Nelson is in second-place, and the University of Jamestown women's golf team put together by far their best single-round performance of the season in round one of the Battle in the North hosted by Minot State University as they head into round two at first place in a field of five NSIC teams at the Beowulf Golf Club.
The Jimmies finished with a team score of 323 (+39). This beats their previous-best round high by 20 strokes, and Jamestown has a comfortable 13-stroke lead over the University of Mary (342) as they will look for their first tournament win of the season tomorrow.
Kacie Rexin is in sole possession of first place in a field of 26 golfers shooting a round of 77 (+6) consisting of three birdies, six pars, and nine bogeys.
Nelson holds down the second-place position halfway through the event, one stroke behind Rexin at 78 (+7). On her 18 holes, the Minnesota native had three birdies, eight pars, four bogeys, and three double bogeys.
Freshman Mylee Michel had a great round at 83 (+12) as the third-highest Jamestown finisher, ranking sixth in the field. Ellie Garavaglia rounded out the scorers in seventh place carding 85 (+14) to put four Jimmies among the top seven finishers.
Lyla McCasson was in the top half of the finishers in a share of 12th place with a round of 88 (+17) and Jaya Farlinger competed as an individual in the freshman's first ever collegiate event, finishing day one with a score of 92 (+21).
Behind Rexin and Nelson is Emily Watts of Minot State with a score of 79 (+8). Two competitors from the University of Mary, Annie Neva and Lola Huber, are in a tie for fourth at 80 (+8).
The Jimmies will look to stay hot as the second round of the Battle in the North continues tomorrow, October 6 with first tee times beginning around 9 a.m.
