MARSHALL, Minn. – The University of Jamestown men's wrestling team traveled to Marshall on Saturday, falling 27-15 in a dual meet against Southwest Minnesota State University.
The dual began at heavyweight, where Southwest Minnesota State jumped out to an early lead with a forfeit victory. The Mustangs extended their advantage to 11-0 after a technical fall at 125 pounds.
Elijah Nose got the Jimmies on the board at 133 pounds, earning an 11-4 decision over Chase Hanson. However, SMSU answered with a forfeit at 141 pounds to push the margin to 17-3.
At 149 pounds,
Alvy Henderson battled to a 5-3 decision victory over Jacob Messner, cutting into the deficit. The Mustangs responded with a decision at 157 pounds and a hard-fought sudden-victory win at 165 pounds, where Wyatt Pollard defeated
Rocker Aguilar 14-11 in overtime.
Jamestown found success in the upper weights, starting with
Colton Schaad's 4-2 decision win over Noah Jensen at 174 pounds.
Hayden Ramaeker followed with a victory at 184 pounds, winning by injury default over Mason Buss at the 4:08 mark to bring the team score to 23-15.
Southwest Minnesota State sealed the dual victory in the final bout at 197 pounds, taking a major decision to finalize the 27-15 score.
The Jimmies will compete next at the Cobber Last Shot Invite in Moorhead, Minn., on February 7.
