SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Jamestown men's wrestling team traveled to University of Sioux Falls for a dual meet Friday evening, and although the Jimmies jumped out to an early lead, the Cougars responded to take a 28-16 win.
The Jimmies started fast, winning the first two contested bouts to build an 8-0 advantage. Isaac Ronquillo opened the night at 125 pounds with a 12-7 decision victory over Vincent Mayberry. Elijah Nose followed with a dominant performance at 133 pounds, securing a technical fall (18-3) over Bray Skinner.
Sioux Falls responded to take the lead following a forfeit at 141 and a narrow sudden-victory decision at 149 pounds, where Alvy Henderson dropped a 13-10 heartbreaker to Sonny Lora in extra time.
After the Cougars extended their lead through the middle weights with a pin and a major decision, the Jimmies battled back in the upper weights. Hayden Ramaeker earned a hard-fought 5-3 decision over True Tobiasson at 184 pounds to stop the run.
At 197 pounds, Dane Hartmann provided a spark for Jamestown, racking up points for a 17-2 technical fall over Mishael Mauck. However, a forfeit at heavyweight sealed the 28-16 victory for Sioux Falls.
The JImmies will be in Marshall, Minn., Saturday to face Southwest Minnesota State at 5 p.m.
