PARKVILLE, Mo. – The Jimmies went the distance in a high-stakes five-set battle against Goshen College, Saturday afternoon.
Ultimately falling in a narrow 3-2 decision. Despite matching their opponents with 50 total kills, Jamestown wrapping up the weekend with incredibly close sets, with the final scores ending 25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 16-25, and 10-15.
Jamestown took control early in the first set, recording 11 kills to claim a 25-17 win. After dropping the second set, the Jimmies put together their most efficient offensive performance in the third, racking up 16 kills to edge out the Maple Leafs 25-23 and take a 2-1 lead in the match. However, Goshen responded by taking the fourth set to force a tiebreaker. In the final set, a series of service aces by Goshen proved to be the difference, as the Jimmies fell 15-10.
Chase Hawkinson was the driving force for the Jimmies offense, exploding for a match-high 20 kills on 41 attempts. He added a solo block and a block assist to finish with 21.5 total points. Lucas Soeldner provided steady support at the net with 9 kills, while Ladarius Williams contributed 7 kills and 6 digs. The offense was facilitated by Kaden Jenkins, who tallied 26 assists, and Rowan Shaughnessy, who added 17 assists. Defensively, Jackson Holmes led the back row with 10 digs and kept the pressure on at the service line with a team-high 3 aces.
Due to weather conditions the Jimmies did not compete against Reinhardt University, but will return to the court January 31, to face Dordt University, here at the Harold Newman Arena at 11am.
