PARKVILLE, Mo. – Jamestown men's volleyball dropped a four-set decision to Ottawa on Friday afternoon, falling 3–1 despite a strong opening set.
Game One
The Jimmies opened the match with momentum, taking the first set 25–22 before Ottawa responded to claim the final three sets, 25–22, 28–26, and 25–13. The opening frame saw Jamestown set the tone early, capitalising on Ottawa errors and steady attacking to secure the set win. Ottawa answered back in the second, tightening up defensively and evening the match with a 25–22 result.
Set three proved to be the turning point of the match. Jamestown pushed Ottawa point-for-point in a tightly contested battle that extended beyond regulation, but the Braves edged out the Jimmies 28–26 to take a 2–1 lead. Ottawa carried that momentum into the fourth set, pulling away early and closing out the match.
Ethan Carroll led the Jimmies offensively with 11 kills on an efficient .588 hitting percentage, while Lucas Soeldner added 9 kills. Rowan Shaughnessy anchored the offense with 23 assists, and Jackson Holmes led the defensive effort with 5 digs.
Game Two
The Jimmies men's volleyball team continued its tournament schedule Friday afternoon, dropping a hard-fought four-set match against Governors State University, falling 3–1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23) at a neutral-site match in Parkville.
The Jimmies started the match strong, taking the opening set 25-22 after out-hitting the Jaguars with 14 kills to open the match. However, Governors State responded by winning three consecutive sets to secure the victory. In the final set, Jamestown battled back from a late deficit to tie the game at 23-23 before the Jaguars scored the final two points to close out the match.
Offensively, the Jimmies were led by Chase Hawkinson, who recorded a match-high 15 kills. Lucas Soeldner also reached double figures with 11 kills, while Ladarius Williams contributed 10 kills. Kaden Jenkins and Rowan Shaughnessy shared setting duties, tallying 30 and 19 assists, respectively.
Defensively, Ladarius Williams led the Jimmies with 10 digs, followed closely by Jackson Holmes with 9. At the net, Jamestown totaled five team blocks, with Chase Hawkinson leading the way with one solo block and two block assists. As a team, the Jimmies recorded 53 kills and 40 digs throughout the four sets.
The Jimmies look to return tomorrow for continued play in the Pirate Invitational against Goshen College and Reinhardt University starting at noon.
