Jimmies Take Opening Set Before Falling to the Mavericks

Jamestown N.D—The University of Jamestown Women's Volleyball team fell to the (RV) Minnesota State Mavericks in a four-set match at the Harold Newman Arena in Jamestown, ND. The Jimmies took the first set but struggled to maintain their momentum in the end.

Corbyn Menz led the Jimmies' attack with 11 kills and also contributed 2 service aces and 7 digs.

Ava Mueller and Charlotte Lempka each tallied 7 kills in the match. Lempka also added 1 solo block.

• The offense was run by the setting duo of Ava Bertsch (18 assists) and Lily Bertsch (17 assists). Lily also chipped in 9 digs.

• Defensively, Momoka Minamiya anchored the back row with a team-high 16 digs.

Addison Ertz was also in on the action recording 6 kills.

  • Set 1 (25-23 UJ Win): The Jimmies came out strong, securing a tight first-set victory that featured 5 ties and 2 lead changes. This included key kills by Corbyn Menz and Ava Mueller to keep the Jimmies ahead during crucial late-set rallies. The Jimmies win was fueled by a strong offensive performance, posting a .286 hitting percentage in the set.
  • Set 2 (25-16 MSU Win): Minnesota State took control, but the Jimmies saw individual efforts like a Corbyn Menz kill, assisted by Ava Bertsch, which made the match 8-5 which briefly slowed the Mavericks' momentum. Momoka Minamiya's defense was key to extending rallies as the team struggled on offense. 
  • Set 3 (25-18 MSU Win): The Jimmies were able to come out and take a 3-6 lead with help from an attack error on the Mavericks. But the Mavericks rallied back to regain the momentum. Addison Ertz was efficient with her attacks, helping the Jimmies stay close
  • Set 4 (25-12 MSU Win): Despite the Mavericks dominating the final set, Corbyn Menz managed to record a service ace to score a rare point for the Jimmies. A final kill by Addison Brooke, set by Ava Bertsch, was one of the bright spots on offense before the Mavericks closed out the match.
