Softball drops doubleheader to Division 1 North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Jimmie softball team took on Division 1 University of North Dakota Wednesday evening at Albrecht Field and held their own against the Fighting Hawks. UND came away with the sweep, winning by scores of 3-1 and 3-0.

GAME ONE
  • The Jimmies got on the scoreboard in the top of the first on an RBI single by Kayla Quintanilla. Trinity Gregg came home from second base on Quintanilla's single to shallow left field.
  • UND took the lead with a three-run third inning, then limited UJ to just two hits over the final four innings, winning by a score of 3-1.
  • Lauren Weigel, Kylie Yanzuk, and Kaitlin McCartney also had hits for Jamestown.
  • Hope Ransome (7-5) started in the circle and pitched five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking two.
GAME TWO
  • Neither team scored until UND pushed home two runs in the bottom of the fourth against Jimmie starter Abby Blair.
  • Blair retired the first two hitters of the inning, but a single, a walk, and two more singles led to a pair of runs for the home team.
  • A one-out single in the bottom of the fifth accounted for the Fighting Hawks' final run.
  • Trinity Gregg was 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot, Lauren Weigel had a triple, and four other players added a hit.
  • Blair (8-5) went five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, walked one, and struck out three. The loss was her first since February 22nd, covering a span of 10 appearances.

  • Jamestown returns to conference action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Valley City State (N.D.) beginning at 2 p.m.
