TUCSON, Ariz. -- The University of Jamestown softball team scored a combined 40 runs on 38 hits Monday afternoon during the first day of the Tucson Invitational Games, defeating La Sierra University 27-7 in five innings and Arizona Christian 13-5 in six innings.

JAMESTOWN VS. LA SIERRA
- La Sierra scored seven times in the bottom of the first inning and chased Jimmie starter Hope Ransome after two-thirds of an inning.
- Maddie Hairgrove (2-1) pitched the remaining 4 1/3 innings and was the beneficiary of UJ's 16-run second inning.
- Twenty-one batters came to the plate, and 11 hits, four walks, and two errors later, Jamestown led 16-7.
- Three runs in the third, seven more in the fourth, and one in the fifth pushed the lead to 27-7.
- Maddie Spaeth was 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, four RBI, and three runs scored.
- Sydney Grendler drove in two runs and finished 3-for-3 at the plate.
- Trinity Gregg also had a three-hit game, drove in three, and scored four times.
- Lauren Weigel (3), Kayla Quintanilla (2), and Sam Vazquez (2) each had multiple RBI.
- Vazquez and Natalie Draper both tripled, while Weigel, Quintanilla, Amanda Burch, and Kylie Yanzuk also had doubles.
JAMESTOWN VS. ARIZONA CHRISTIAN
- Kaitlin McCartney hit a two-run home run and Maddie Spaeth doubled in two more as the Jimmies struck for a 5-0 lead after the first inning.
- Arizona Christian rallied for four runs in the top of the second, and UJ held on to a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the fourth.
- Spaeth and Sidnie Aasen each drove in a run to make it 7-4.
- ACU got within 7-5 but the Jimmies ended the game via run rule with six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
- Spaeth, Lauren Weigel, Natalie Draper, and Tori Olson all drove in runs, with Olson's single scoring Kayla Quintanilla with the deciding run.
- Abby Blair improved to 2-4 while allowing two earned runs in four innings, striking out two.
- Laura Ransome worked the final two innings for her fourth save, giving up one hit and striking out two.
- Spaeth (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 2 R), Quintanilla (2-for-4,) Draper (2-for-4), Kylie Yanzuk (2-for-3), and Sidnie Aasen (2-for-3) all had multiple hits for the Jimmies.
