Softball stretches streak to five with two wins on Tuesday

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Two more wins on Tuesday for the Jimmie softball team extended their winning streak to five games, as UJ defeated Concordia Ann Arbor 6-5 and Saint Francis (Ill.) 7-2.

JAMESTOWN VS. CONCORDIA ANN ARBOR
  • The Jimmies were held to a third-inning single by Kate Geiszler and single by Natalie Draper in the fifth as Concordia built a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.
  • Maddie Spaeth singled home Sidnie Aasen with two outs in the sixth as UJ cut the lead to 4-1.
  • Concordia added another run in the top of the seventh to up their lead to 5-1 going into Jamestown's final time at the plate.
  • The Jimmies loaded the bases with only one out, and Aasen delivered a double to left center, clearing the bases while cutting the deficit to 5-4.
  • Trinity Gregg followed with a single to left and took second base on the throw as Aasen advanced to third.
  • Lauren Weigel provided the game-winning hit with a double to left as Gregg and Aasen scored for a 6-5 victory.
  • Maddie Hairgrove (3-1) worked the final inning and was credited with the win. Hope Ransome went the first six innings, giving up five runs on 10 hits, striking out two.
  • Aasen and Gregg both had two hits for UJ.
JAMESTOWN VS. SAINT FRANCIS
  • The Jimmies opened up a 6-0 lead after the fourth and went on to a 7-2 victory.
  • Kayla Quintanilla and Natalie Draper drove in UJ's two first-inning runs, then and error and sacrifice flies by Lauren Weigel and Maddie Spaeth accounted for three more runs in the second.
  • Spaeth's double in the fourth scored Weigel to make it 6-0.
  • USF got on the board with a run in the fifth but Jamestown countered in the seventh as Amanda Burch drew a bases-loaded walk.
  • Spaeth, Draper, and Kaitlin McCartney all finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
  • Abby Blair (3-4) gave up just one run on five hits over six innings to get the win.
UP NEXT
  • Jamestown plays two more games on Wednesday in Tucson, Ariz. At 10:00 AM Central the Jimmies face Madonna (Mich.) University , then finish the day against Northwestern (Iowa) at 2:30 PM.
