JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- The University of Jamestown softball team dropped a pair of games to Minot State University Wednesday evening at the Nelson Family Bubble. The Beavers won 5-3 in game one, then took game two by a score of 5-2.

GAME ONE
- Minot State took a 1-0 lead as Sara Van Wickler led off the game with a home run.
- Sarah Misner added to the Beavers' lead with a two-run homer in the top of the fourth to make it 3-0.
- Jamestown got back in the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Kayla Quintanilla, then one batter later Quintanilla came home on an MSU throwing error.
- Minot State added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to retake a three-run lead.
- The Jimmies began a rally in the bottom of the seventh as Tori Olson led off with a pinch-hit double. After the next two batters were retired, Trinity Gregg doubled to score Olson and moved up to third on a Minot State error. That would be the only run for UJ in the inning and MSU held on for the 5-3 win.
- Gregg and Quintanilla each had a pair of hits for Jamestown. Maddie Spaeth added a double while Lauren Weigel also had a hit.
- Hope Ransome (3-2) took the loss, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) in 6 innings with 7 strikeouts.
GAME TWO
- Four unearned runs in the top of the first staked the Beavers to an early 4-0 lead.
- One inning later, Sara Van Wickler homered to make the score 5-0 in favor of Minot State.
- Abby Blair drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the second, and Kylie Yanzuk followed with a home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 5-2.
- Neither team would score over the final five innings and the game ended 5-2 in favor of the Beavers.
- Maddie Spaeth was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and Yanzuk finished 2-for-3.
- Maddie Hairgrove struck out 6 in 5 1/3 shutout innings of relief.

- Jamestown hosts Valley City State on Friday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m, then takes on University of Mary at 8 p.m. later that evening.
