CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Jamestown women's basketball team dropped a 99-70 decision to Minnesota-Crookston on Wednesday night at Lysaker Gym, falling to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Despite four players scoring in double figures, the Jimmies could not overcome a high-powered Golden Eagle offense that shot 50.7 percent from the field and connected on 13 three-pointers.
Samantha Paulsen led the Jimmies with 18 points on efficient 7-of-10 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers. Haidyn Crockett followed with 13 points, while Jessika Lofstrom added 12 points behind a 4-of-5 performance from beyond the arc.
Allie Berns filled the stat sheet for Jamestown, recording a near double-double with 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds while also dishing out four assists.
UMC (2-9, 1-5 NSIC) came out firing in the opening quarter, scoring 35 points to take an eight-point lead after the first 10 minutes. The Jimmies tightened up defensively in the second quarter, holding the Golden Eagles to 16 points, but trailed 51-41 at the halftime break.
The hosts pulled away in the second half, outscoring Jamestown 48-29 over the final two quarters. Turnovers proved costly for the Jimmies, as 21 giveaways resulted in 31 points for Minnesota-Crookston.
Emma Miller powered the Golden Eagles with a game-high 33 points, six assists, and five steals. Anna Westby added 21 points and five blocks, while Riley Jenkins chipped in with 19 points.
UJ returns to action on Saturday when they take on Minnesota State University Moorhead at Nemzek Fieldhouse with tip time set for 5:30 p.m.
