MOORHEAD, Minn. – After a tightly contested opening ten minutes, the University of Jamestown women's basketball team saw the host Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragons seize control in the second quarter, handing the Jimmies a 76-49 loss Saturday evening at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.
The defeat drops Jamestown to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while MSUM moves above .500 at 6-5 overall and 3-4 in league play.
UJ came out firing in the first quarter, taking a narrow 22-21 lead after the opening frame behind a balanced attack. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the second quarter. The Dragons' defense clamped down, holding the Jimmies to just six points in the period, all from the foul line, while erupting for 24 points of their own to take a commanding 45-28 advantage into halftime.
The offensive struggles continued into the third quarter for Jamestown, who managed to connect on just 3-of-19 field goal attempts following an 0-for-9 performance in the second quarter. The Jimmies were held to only nine points coming out of the locker room, allowing MSU Moorhead to extend the lead further.
Daviney Dreckman paced the Jimmies with 11 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Haidyn Crockett and Jessika Lofstrom also reached double figures, scoring 10 points apiece. Lofstrom connected on 2-of-4 attempts from beyond the arc.
Allie Berns contributed six points and matched Dreckman with six rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.
MSUM controlled the interior throughout the contest, outscoring Jamestown 36-12 in the paint. The Dragons were led by Grace Massaquoi, who scored a game-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds.
Ashton Safranski directed the Dragons' offense effectively, tallying 14 points, seven assists, and seven rebounds. Karlee Fisher added 15 points off the bench, helping the MSUM reserves outscore the Jimmie bench 33-12.
Jamestown struggled to find a shooting rhythm, finishing the night at 29.6 percent (16-of-54) from the field and 21.7 percent (5-of-23) from three-point range. Ball security was also an issue, as the Jimmies committed 19 turnovers which led to 20 points for the Dragons.
Conversely, MSU Moorhead shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the floor and capitalized on second-chance opportunities with 19 offensive rebounds.
The Jimmies return to action on Saturday, January 3, 2026, when they host Northern State University at 3 p.m.
