JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown women's basketball team struggled to find its offensive rhythm on Saturday afternoon, falling 82-36 to Minnesota Duluth at Harold Newman Arena.
The loss drops the Jimmies to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in NSIC play, while Minnesota Duluth improves to 7-2 overall and remains perfect in conference action at 5-0.
UJ found itself in an early hole as the Bulldogs opened the game with a hot shooting hand. UMD outscored Jamestown 22-6 in the first quarter and extended the lead to 40-15 by halftime.
The Jimmies' offense faced a tough task against the Bulldogs' defense throughout the contest. UJ shot 26.3 percent (15-of-57) from the field and were limited to just 16.7 percent (4-of-24) from beyond the arc. Ball security also proved difficult, as Jamestown committed 20 turnovers, which Minnesota Duluth converted into 30 points.
Daviney Dreckman led the Jimmies with nine points on 4-of-11 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. Samantha Paulsen provided a spark off the bench, contributing seven points and three steals in 19 minutes of action.
Jessika Lofstrom added five points and two rebounds, while Kiara Jangula hit a late three-pointer to finish with three points and a steal.
UMD controlled the game with efficient shooting and a balanced attack. The Bulldogs shot 53.3 percent (32-of-60) from the floor and connected on 12-of-27 three-point attempts.
Lexi Karge paced the visitors with 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Maria Counts added 11 points, and Myra Moorjani chipped in 10 points to help fuel an offense that scored 32 points in the paint and received 35 points from its bench.
Jamestown travels to Crookston, Minn., to face Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m.
