NSIC preseason poll released

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The University of Jamestown men's wrestling team was picked to finish 11th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference preseason coaches' poll, released on Thursday.

The two-time defending NSIC champions of St. Cloud State University were selected to win the league. The Huskies had 96 points and seven first place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) to rank five points ahead of Augustana, which was second with 91 points and three first place votes. Parkside was third with 84 points and the final first place vote.

"We are a first-year team in the NSIC and DII," said head coach Gresh Jones. "With 18 true freshmen on our team this year we are really young and hungry. The team is motivated and wanting to make some big time waves this year. The boys have been stacking the days and working their tails off this preseason and I can't wait to see how they do this year on the mats and in the classroom!"

Augustana's Cael Larson was voted by the league coaches as the preseason wrestler of the year. Larson, the 2024-25 NCAA DII National Champion 149 pounds,  went 22-5 last season and was 7-2 in NSIC duals.

Isaac Ronquillo was picked as the Jimmies' Wrestler to Watch.

"Isaac is a do it all type of student athlete," Jones said. "He is a leader on and off the mats and constantly asking questions on how to improve in certain situations on the mat as well as questions off the mat. Isaac is a very talented freshman for UJ who is willing to do the extra and I am very excited to see how he does this year!"

Jamestown begins the regular season by hosting the Jimmie Open on Sunday, November 2 at 9:00 a.m. Their home opener dual is also the NSIC opener, Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m. against St. Cloud State.

NSIC wrestling's non-conference schedule gets underway on Saturday, November 1 with the ten match NSIC dual schedule starting on December 4 and continuing throughout the year.  The NCAA Super Region V Championships are scheduled for Saturday, February  28 at the RA Facility in Marshall, Minnesota while the NCAA Championships will take place on Friday-Saturday, March 13-14 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; co-hosted by the NSIC and the Sioux Falls Sports Authority.
