Jimmies rally for win at VCSU

VALLEY CITY, N.D.— The University of Jamestown men's basketball team overcame a six-point second half deficit on Friday evening and came away with an 85-81 win over Valley City State at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team led by more than three points until the Vikings used runs of 5-0 and 8-2 to open up a 16-10 advantage seven minutes into the game.
  • UJ retook the lead after Owen Hektner sank a pair of free throws, then Silas Bennion scored to put the Jimmies in front 21-18.
  • Jimmy Llinas gave Jamestown its largest lead of the first with his fourth basket of the half to make it 32-26 with 4:16 left.
  • VCSU closed on a 15-5 run for a 41-37 advantage at the half.
  • Just under five and a half minutes into the second, UJ led 55-51 after a Will Cordes basket and a three from Bennion, but the Vikings scored 10 straight points to take a 6-point lead.
  • Once again trailing by six, the Jimmies began their comeback. A 13-1 run finished with a three-pointer by Anthony Walters to give Jamestown a 75-69 lead at the 3:35 mark.
  • UJ twice led by eight down the stretch, and a three-pointer by the Vikings at the buzzer trimmed the victory from seven to four points.
  • Bennion led the Jimmies with 22 points and had 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
  • Llinas was also in double figures with 19 and finished with 9 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
  • Hektner recorded 3 steals and joined Walters and Cole Glasgow with 8 points.
