KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- The University of Jamestown baseball team concluded its first weekend of games in 2024 with two more games on Sunday, defeating Dakota State (S.D.) 7-3 and losing 7-6 to William Penn (Iowa).

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Avery Liestman (1-0) was a winner in his Jamestown debut, striking out seven over five innings, while giving up only two runs on four hits.
• Jett Nelson was 2-for-2 and scored twice, and Ben Patton hit a two-run home run as the Jimmies finished with nine hits.
• Chase Burke scored the first Jimmie run in the top of the first. On his attempted steal of second base, the DSU catcher's throw went into centerfield, allowing Burke to advance to third. DSU's centerfielder overthrew third base trying to get Burke, who continued home.
• In the top of the third, Alex Alva scored on a two-out single by Jordan Singleton, breaking a 1-1 tie. A pair of sacrifice flies helped Jamestown extend their lead in the fourth, as Jackson Bonneville and Isaiah Roebuck brought home runners with fly balls to the outfield.
• Dakota State made it a two-run game with a single run in the fifth, but the Jimmies tacked on two more in the next inning. Nelson reached first after being hit by a pitch, and Patton followed with a home run to push the lead to 6-2.
• Ryan Muizelaar's fielder's choice in the top of the seventh scored Burke to make it 7-2 as DSU came to bat in the last of the seventh. The Trojans got a two-out single to score a lone run, and the score ended 7-3.
• Hayden Brown earned his second save, working the final 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• A five-run fourth inning helped William Penn take a 7-6 victory in Sunday's second game.
• Jamestown trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the third, but Jett Nelson led off the inning with a solo home run and Alex Alva scored on Chase Burke's single to tie the game at 2-2.
• WPU loaded the bases in the top of the fourth with one out, and a walk, fielder's choice, and Jimmie fielding error, followed by a two-run double, put William Penn ahead 7-2.
• Jackson Bonneville and Alex Alva each drove in runs for Jamestown in the bottom of the fourth, making it a 7-4 game.
• Isaiah Roebuck tripled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to score Ryan Muizelaar for the fifth UJ run.
• The Jimmies made things interesting in their final at-bat, getting runners to second and third with only one out. Jordan Singleton's sacrifice fly scored Burke and allowed Riki Okamoto to move up to third base. Unfortunately for the Jimmies, the next two hitters were retired and William Penn came away with the win.
• Nelson, Alva, and Burke all had two hits.
• Ryan Radkey pitched the final three innings in relief without allowing a run and giving up one hit.
