GRIMES, Iowa – Chance Robinson was the top placer for the Jimmie men's wrestling team Saturday at the Grand View Open, placing third in the 285 pound bracket of the Freshman/Sophomore division.
Robinson won his first two matches by major decision, 14-2 over Jaylin Bien-Aime of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and 17-3 over Graceland's Xavier Smith. In the quarterfinals, Robinson was an 8-1 sudden victory winner over Mason Harris of Benedictine.
Against eventual champion James Bankston of Pratt Community College in the semifinals, Robinson lost a 6-0 decision, but pinned Northern Iowa's Grant Stromberg (2:44) and finished off Pratt CC's Marcel Gonzalez by 11-1 major decision in the third-place match.
Other Jimmies with wins in the Freshman/Sophomore division included Jonathan Pacheco, who defeated Sirvantee Williams of Colby Community College by tech fall (17-2) at 157 pounds; and Samuel Sampers (157), who pinned Rio Grande's Davin Skinner in 3:30.
UJ returns to the mats on Saturday, November 23, at the Spire Duals in Leavenworth, Kan., beginning at 9 a.m.
