Jimmies fall to University of Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The University of Jamestown men's basketball fell to the University of Sioux Falls Cougars on Saturday afternoon. Owen Hektner led the Jimmies with 20 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies start looked a lot like their last game with back-to-back threes, one from Hektner and one from Silas Bennion. The Cougars responded with a 9-point run to lead 9-6.
  • The lead went back and forth for several minutes until the Cougars began to pull away in the 11th minute of play. The Cougars gained their largest lead of 16 points with 2:24 on the clock.
  • The Jimmies made seven free throws in the remaining two minutes, all while keeping the Cougars off the board to end the half down 37-46.
  • In the second half, the Jimmies began to chip away, getting within five, but the Cougars regained their double-figure lead eight minutes in.
  • Eight of the Jimmies next 20 points came from free throws, and they managed to slim the Cougars lead and trail by eight with 2:15 remaining.
  • Cougars free throws kept them ahead, as the Jimmies were forced to foul. Will Cordes ended the game with a last-second layup, but ultimately, the game went to the Cougars, 80-69.
  • Bennion was the other player to score in double figures with 18 points. The Jimmies had 12 steals, four belonging to Hektner.
