HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jamestown won the first and third sets by narrow two-point and three-point margins, respectively.
  • The middle set was not as close, with the Jimmies outhitting the Bulldogs .393 to .000 along with a 2-to-1 advantage in kills (14-7).
  • In the opener, Montana Western led late (20-17) before kills by Gracie Adamson and Charlee Krieg preceded an ace from Lily Bertsch tied the score.
  • Following a Bulldog timeout, Krieg and Lexi Olson teamed up for a block, and a Montana Western attack error gave the Jimmies another point to push their lead to 22-20.
  • Olson (2) and Lempka combined for the final three UJ kills, with Lempka's providing the winning point for a 1-0 match lead.
  • Jamestown opened set two with a 6-2 run and quickly amassed leads of 14-8 and 19-10.
  • Lempka's solo block made the score 20-11 and forced a Bulldog stoppage. Out of the break, three in a row, and five of the last six points went to UJ, including kills by Karlie Anderson and Olson.
  • The Jimmies opened the third with the first five points, but to the Bulldogs' credit, the team maintained its composure and went ahead 8-7.
  • As has happened many times this season, Jamestown caught fire and went on a 7-1 run to go in front by a score of 14-9.
  • UJ's largest lead up to that point was 17-10, but little by little Montana Western chipped away. Four straight points by the Bulldogs left the Jimmies with just a 22-20 lead. The streak ended on a service error and Jamestown regained control at 23-20.
  • The nail-biting finish was extended by back-to-back Bulldog points, but at 23-22, Aleah Zieske's kill pushed the Jimmies to match point. Lempka and Zieske followed with a combo block that sent the Orange and Black to another victory.
  • Jamestown got contributions from every player in the win. Leading the way in kills were Zieske with 13 kills, Krieg with 9, and Adamson with 8. Bertsch and Tenley Buddenhagen had 23 and 20 assists, respectively, and Ellie Holen turned up 23 digs, followed by Zieske with 11 and Adamson with 4. The block party is not limited to downtown Jamestown in August, but lasts year round, with another shindig happening Friday. Lempka posted 5 total blocks while Olson and Anderson had 4 block assists each. Krieg added 2 while Adamson and Zieske also got into the action.
  • Through the first two days of the North Star/Frontier Crossover, Jamestown has been the only North Star team to post a victory. Saturday's final matches will have Montana Western taking on Dickinson State, Providence facing Mayville State, MSU-Northern squaring off against Dickinson State, and Rocky Mountain finishing the weekend against Mayville State.

UP NEXT

  • Speaking of Mayville State, the Jimmies return to the court on Friday, October 18 to host the Comets at the friendly confines of Harold Newman Arena. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
