INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Set One (25-23)
Neither team led by more than two points in the opener, and the Mustangs once again built a two-point edge after a block made it 22-20. Olson's kill and a Morningside error brought the Jimmies level, but the Mustangs used a kill by Claire Wilson to retake a 23-22 lead. A kill by Olson and two in a row by Sherman wrapped up the set for Jamestown, who outhit Morningside .310 to .191 in the frame.
  • Set Two (25-17)
A 7-2 run by Jamestown helped build a 12-6 lead in the second, but Morningside held its composure and rallied for five in a row to get within a point. The Jimmies reeled off six out of eight points as they went ahead 19-14. The Mustangs got as close as four points before UJ finished with a flourish, using a combo block by Olson and Zieske and kills from Hegerle and Sherman to open up a 2-0 match lead.
  • Set Three (25-21)
Jamestown looked to have an easy sweep in hand after Charlee Krieg's kill made it 16-6. However, Morningside closed the gap to 16-13 by winning seven straight points. The Jimmies saw a 21-17 lead get cut in half then rebuilt it after a Mustang service error and Megan Moser ace. Johnson provided the final two points with her third and fourth kills of the match as Jamestown completed the sweep.
