Savanna Nesemeier (SO/Kindred, ND) (women's golf) and Cody Vogler (JR/New Lenox, IL) (baseball) have been named Jamestown Optimist Club Athletes of the Week for the week of April 11-17, 2016.
Savanna placed 6th in the Mankato Spring Invite, a Division 2 tourney played in Coon Rapids, MN. Savanna shot 80-81-161.
Cody led the Jimmies with a .556 batting average as Jamestown (N.D.) went 2-1 last week. Against NCAA Division II Northern State (S.D.), Vogler was 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs and four runs batted in as Jamestown won 15-5. Vogler was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored in the Jimmies' 6-4 10-inning loss to Viterbo (Wis.). Three of his five hits during the week were for extra bases.
Optimist International is an association of more than 2,900 Optimist Clubs around the world dedicated to "Bringing Out the Best in Kids." Adult volunteers join Optimist Clubs to conduct positive service projects in their communities aimed at providing a helping hand to youth. With their upbeat attitude, Optimist Club members help empower young people to be the best that they can be.
