Jamestown, N.D. - The University of Jamestown football team is set to begin Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with their home opener against the University of Sioux Falls Saturday.

The Teams
 
The Jimmies dropped their season opener against (RV) Upper Iowa University, 30-13. UJ fell behind 21-6 at half but cut it 24-13 in the third quarter. However, slow offense in the fourth quarter cost Jamestown a chance of a comeback against one of the best teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
 
Starting quarterback Cole Hentges had nine completions for 70 yards while rushing 15 times for 76 yards. Running back Mason Whitley had a great offensive performance with 77 rushing yards, two touchdowns, and one reception of 27 yards. Gage Solano was the top receiver for the Jimmies with five catches for 29 yards. Josh Bosacker had 11 tackles while Antonio Bernardini had nine tackles plus a sack.
 
The Jimmies were outpaced by the Peacocks in total yards (383-215), first downs (17-11), and were only 3-for-15 on third down.   
 
Sioux Falls is also looking to get into the win column after dropping their season opener at home against Black Hills State University by a score of 24-21. The Cougars fell behind by two touchdowns but tied it up at 14 at the half. The Yellow Jackets tacked on 10 unanswered points and Sioux Falls did not score in the second half until a touchdown with three seconds remaining in the game.
 
Against Black Hills State, junior quarterback Tate Schafer was 21-for-41 with 198 yards and a touchdown. Bubba Tann ran for two touchdowns with 34 rushing yards, and Isaac Jarovski hauled in six catches for 46 yards, scoring the second half touchdown for the Cougars. The Yellow Jackets had 308 yards in the game while Sioux Falls had 225, with almost all of that (198) being receiving yards. Ball possession was dominated by Black Hills State with the Yellow Jackets accumulating 42:09 time of possession.   
 
Expectations are quite high for the Cougars after a successful 2025 campaign where they went 6-4 in conference play to finish in a tie for sixth in the NSIC. Sioux Falls was selected fourth in the 2026 preseason poll.  
 
The last time the Jimmies and Cougars met was all the way back in 2006 when Tom Dosch was in his first stint as Jamestown head coach and both colleges were members of the NAIA. That was a contest down in Sioux Falls where UJ fell 48-10.
