The Teams

The Jimmies will head into today's contest seeking their first win of the season and second-ever NSIC win. It was not a pretty showing for Jamestown in their home opener against the University of Sioux Falls last week, as they were blanked 31-0 against the Cougars. Versus Sioux Falls, Jacob Mattick completed 11-of-21 passes for 90 yards and one interception. Mason Whitley was the top rusher with 51 yards on nine carries while Gavin Olson hauled in three catches for 34 yards. Alexander Rivera led the Jamestown defense with seven tackles and two broken up passes. The Jimmies were doubled up in yards 392-176 and Sioux Falls tallied 22 first downs, averaged 5.5 yards per play, and was 7-for-14 on first downs.

Through the two games thus far, Whitley has rushed for 128 total yards on 26 attempts and a solid 4.9 yards per carry. The senior running back is responsible for the only two Jamestown touchdowns on the season. Gage Solano has been the top target hauling in seven catches for 41 yards. Josh Bosacker leads the UJ defense with 16 tackles, and 2.5 for a loss of yardage. Antonio Bernardini is just behind with 15 tackles, two are which are for a loss.

The Warriors will also be looking for their first win of the season as they have a common record with Jamestown at 0-2 overall at 0-1 in the NSIC. Two weeks ago, the Warriors battled to only a one-score loss, 15-9 against Division-I University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on the road. Then last Thursday, Winona State dropped a 31-16 game to Northern State University away from home in their conference opener. The Warriors fell behind 14-0 after the first quarter, battled back to 21-16 in the fourth, but surrendered the final 10 points to lose by two scores. Warriors quarterback Jackson Flottmeyer went 18-for-34 with 173 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Nolan Smith totaled 111 yards on 13 carries while wide receiver Rollin George III scored the lone touchdown for Winona State. Blake Schraufnagel had seven tackles and Wesley Wollan had a sack. Both the Warriors and the Wolves were neck-and-neck in yardage with Northern State at 404 and Winona State at 351. The Warriors struggled gaining yards in the redzone, only converting one touchdown on four tries and being forced into a field goal the other three times.

Winona State is coming off a solid 6-5 season in 2025 where they went 6-4 in NSIC play. The Warriors were picked to finish fifth out of the seven NSIC South teams and ninth in the conference overall from a 14-team selection. Flottmeyer through two games so far is 31-for-59 with 289 total yards, finding the endzone once and throwing two interceptions. Both Smith and Jahmani Muhammad have split time at running back, with Smith averaging 7.7 yards per carry with 139 total yards and Muhammad logging 129 yards on 28 attempts. Jake Schultz leads the Warriors in receiving yards with 86 and Ethan Doucette has a team-high 14 tackles, nine of them solo. Kicker Evan Swanstrom leads the NSIC in field goals made, canning all four of his attempts with a long of 38 yards.

Winona State was not part of the 2025 schedule for Jimmies football, and Saturday's matchup will be the first time the Jimmies and Warriors collide on the gridiron.
