Jimmies Draw 1-1 in Season Opener vs. Roosevelt

Arlington Heights, Ill. – Breanna Oettle scored a game-tying goal in the 76th minute as the University of Jamestown women's soccer team opened their 2026 season with a 1-1 draw at Roosevelt University Sunday afternoon.

The Jimmies move to 0-0-1, while Roosevelt sits at 0-0-2 after tying Upper Iowa University earlier in the week.

Roosevelt had some nice possession near the UJ net early on, and Jamestown freshman netminder Taylor Musser made two saves in the first four minutes. The Jimmies had a couple of corner kicks in the 11th and 14th minutes but could not generate any shots from them.

The rest of the first half consisted of many offsides calls and fouls, but not many shot attempts. The Jimmies fended off a couple of Lakers corner kicks in the final couple of minutes, and halftime came around with both teams still seeking a goal.

Roosevelt had six shots with the only two on target coming in the first four minutes. The Jimmies had just two off-target shots by Oettle and Julliet Lopez.

In the second half, Kyah Gabel hit the crossbar on a shot in the 56th minute, and at the opposite end, Musser made another save a bit later. However, in the 69th minute, the home team got on the board with a goal from Bella Perry.

Needing an equalizer, the next few minutes did not go that well for UJ. Roosevelt got a corner kick a few minutes after scoring and then had three quick shots, including one that nailed the crossbar.

However, just a bit over one minute after the Lakers nearly made it 2-0, Oettle scored on the other side with the only shot on goal in the game as the Jimmies knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 76th minute. Bailey Fox notched an assist on the play.

Each team had a couple more chances in the final fraction of the game. Lopez had another shot and Celeste Orozco had two shots in the 88th minute but both missed.

Musser made another save with just over 30 seconds remaining on the timer, and the final buzzer sounded with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

Oettle's goal was the senior's first since the 2024 season. Fox registered her first career assist in her first game. Orozco had Lopez each tallied two shot attempts while Musser had a nice showing in her first collegiate game with four saves and one goal allowed.

Roosevelt had 17 shot attempts, five of which were on target. The Jimmies had seven, really making the most of their only shot on goal by tying the game with it. UJ had a slight edge on corner kicks, 5-4.

Jamestown will now head over to Hammond, Ind. to play a neutral site contest against the Davenport Panthers on Tuesday, September 1 at 12 p.m.
