Hammond, Ind. – The University of Jamestown women's soccer was blanked 4-0 by the Davenport Panthers Tuesday afternoon in a neutral-site game on the campus of Purdue University Northwest.
The Jimmies move to 0-1-1 with conference play just two games away. The Panthers pick up their first win of the season as they move to 1-0-2.
Shots early in the game were dominated by the Panthers, with Jamestown netminder
Taylor Musser having to make three saves all over the place in the first 20 minutes.
Breanna Oettle, who scored in the last game against Roosevelt, had the first UJ shot in the 20
th minute which was on target but saved. Oettle had another shot that missed shortly thereafter.
Davenport hit the post in the 26
th minute, and then really got into it late in the first half. The Jimmies faced four shots in the span of less than three minutes with Musser tested, but holding strong. However, Reegen Dunn was able to find the back of the net with 6:50 left on the first half timer.
The first 45 minutes wrapped up with the Jimmies facing a 1-0 deficit, while also getting outshot 12-2. Musser made five saves in the first half.
Needing at least one goal, the beginning of the second half did not go well for the Jimmies with Davenport scoring a little over seven minutes in, then building their advantage up to 3-0 with a goal in the 60
th minute.
UJ had a few more shots on net in the second half but could not get anything brewing consistently throughout the course of the game.
Audrey Muterspaugh scored her second goal of the game in the 87
th minute, and the Jimmies were handed their first loss of the season in Indiana with the Panthers claiming a 4-0 win.
Oettle notched three total shots in the game, two of which were on target to lead Jamestown in both total shots and shots on net.
Vega Canada and
Kyah Gabel each had one shot on net. Musser saved six in the defeat.
Davenport controlled total shots 18-5 and shots on goal 10-4. The Panthers had an edge in corner kicks as well, 4-1.
The Jimmies will look to get back on track in a preview of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule when they will play Minot State University on the road in a non-conference matchup on Friday, September 5 at 5 p.m.
