Jimmies blanked by SMSU in series finale

MARSHALL, Minn. – The University of Jamestown baseball team struggled to generate offense, falling 10-0 to Southwest Minnesota State on Monday afternoon at Legion Field. The loss drops the Jimmies' record to 12-27 overall and 7-19 in the NSIC, while the Mustangs improve to 18-23 overall and 8-21 in conference play.

Game Summary
Southwest Minnesota State took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. After a leadoff walk to Levi Lampert, Connor Davis delivered an RBI single to center field to put the Mustangs up 1-0.

The Mustangs expanded their lead with a massive four-run third inning. Following a hit-by-pitch and an error that loaded the bases, Davis ripped a bases-clearing three-run double to right-center field. A subsequent throwing error by the Jamestown third baseman allowed Davis to score, pushing the Southwest Minnesota advantage to 5-0.

The offensive surge continued for SMSU in the fourth inning. With runners on second and third, Lampert hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Brock Woitalla. Jared Cortez followed with an RBI bunt single to bring home Lane Moline. Later in the inning, Carter Lang lined an RBI single to left field to score Nathan Wheeler, extending the lead to 8-0.

The Mustangs capped the scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning. Wheeler hit an RBI single up the middle to score Henry Hammrich, and Lampert immediately followed with an RBI single to center field to bring home Woitalla, finalizing the score at 10-0.

Jamestown's offense was stifled by SMSU starter Cody Wichmann, who tossed a complete-game shutout. The Jimmies managed just three hits in the contest, courtesy of Melvin Maldonado, Bode Joyner, and a double by Dallas Cummins in the fifth inning.
