Jimmies use eight-run seventh to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The University of Jamestown baseball team unleashed a massive eight-run seventh inning, highlighted by an inside-the-park home run from Jacob Thomas, to surge past West Virginia Wesleyan College 11-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

Jamestown utilized its speed to manufacture the game's first run in the opening frame. Mathieu Morin drew a leadoff walk, promptly stole second and third base, and scored on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Trayson Kostial.

The Jimmies extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second. After Julian Romero executed a sacrifice bunt to move two runners into scoring position, Morin laced an RBI double to left field. Adrian Warcken followed with a sacrifice fly to deep center to bring home another run.

West Virginia Wesleyan responded with a rally of their own. The Bobcats plated four runs in the top of the third—capped by a two-run single to right field from Coleman Cross—and added an RBI groundout in the fourth to take a 5-3 advantage.

The Jimmie offense caught fire in the bottom of the seventh, sending 12 batters to the plate. Thomas ignited the comeback with a leadoff double to center. After Mason Shea was hit by a pitch and pinch-runner Dallas Cummins stole second, Jett Nelson delivered a clutch two-run single to center field to tie the game at 5-5.

The Jimmies quickly loaded the bases, and Julian Romero was hit by a pitch to force in the go-ahead run. Morin followed with an RBI groundout, and an error off the bat of Warcken allowed another run to cross the plate, making it 8-5.

Batting for the second time in the inning, Thomas delivered the decisive blow. He ripped a ball to right field and raced around the bases for a three-run, inside-the-park home run, capping the eight-run explosion and putting Jamestown ahead 11-5.
