Jimmies close road trip against Maryville University Saturday afternoon

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Maryville (MO) on Saturday afternoon at Moloney Arena.

The Jimmies (6-19, 0-8 GLVC) dropped all three sets to the Saints (13-5, 8-0 GLVC) by scores of 25-16, 25-12, and 27-25.

Set-by-set highlights

Set 1 (Maryville 25, Jamestown 16):
Maryville opened the match with an efficient offensive performance, hitting .476 in the set to establish an early advantage. The Jimmies worked to generate offense, recording 11 kills in the set, with Chase Hawkinson, Lucas Soeldner, and Ladarius Williams contributing points. Jamestown showed moments of extended rallies and improved ball movement as the set progressed, but the Saints maintained control behind consistent attacking and limited errors to take the opening set.

Set 2 (Maryville 25, Jamestown 12):
The Saints continued their momentum into the second set, using a .550 hitting percentage to build separation early. Jamestown recorded seven kills in the set and showed flashes from Cohen Johnson and Ethan Carroll, while continuing to work through serve receive and offensive rhythm. Despite those efforts, Maryville's strong side-out play and ability to convert offensively prevented the Jimmies from closing the gap, as the Saints took a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set 3 (Maryville 27, Jamestown 25):
Jamestown delivered its strongest performance in the final set, improving to a .250 hitting percentage and battling point-for-point with the Saints. The Jimmies totaled 11 kills in the set, with Hawkinson, Williams, and Soeldner leading the attack. Jamestown stayed within reach throughout the set and pushed the score past 25, forcing extra points. After cutting it close late, the Saints were able to secure the final two points to complete the sweep.

Statistical Leaders

Chase Hawkinson led the Jimmies with eight kills, while Ladarius Williams added seven kills and Lucas Soeldner contributed six kills along with two service aces. Cohen Johnson recorded three kills and two block assists, and Ethan Carroll added three kills.

Jamestown totaled 29 assists offensively, with contributions across the lineup. Defensively, the Jimmies recorded 13 digs and three total blocks.

As a team, Jamestown hit .171, improving in each set.
