DAVENPORT, Fla. – The University of Jamestown baseball team played its second doubleheader in Florida on Sunday, taking on Seton Hill University.
Game One
In a tight, low-scoring affair at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, the Griffins came away with a 4-2 win in the opening game of Sunday's doubleheader.
Seton Hill managed to score in each of the first two innings despite not recording a hit. In the bottom of the first, a hit batter and two walks loaded the bases before an error by the Jimmies allowed the game's first run to cross the plate.
The pattern continued in the second inning. An error, a wild pitch, and a passed ball set the table for the Griffins, and another error allowed a second unearned run to score, putting Seton Hill up 2-0.
After two scoreless frames, the Griffins broke through with a clean run in the fifth. Mason Metz laced an RBI single to center field, extending the lead to 3-0. They added a final run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.
The Jimmie bats were held in check for most of the afternoon by Seton Hill starter Sean Williams. However, Jamestown rallied in its final at-bat in the top of the seventh. With one out,
Jett Nelson singled to center and advanced to second on a base hit by
Julian Romero.
Ben Swennumson then drove a clutch RBI single to right field, scoring Nelson.
Pinch-hitter
