DAVENPORT, Fla. – The University of Jamestown baseball team secured its first victory of the season in commanding fashion, shutting out Rockhurst University 11-0 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Northeast Regional Park.
The Jimmies (1-9) were led by a dominant complete-game shutout performance from starter
Isaac Hanson and a high-powered offense that collected 11 runs on nine hits.
Jamestown jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. With one out,
Mathieu Morin walked and quickly stole second base. After an error and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases,
Mason Shea grounded into a fielder's choice that brought Morin home, giving the Jimmies a 1-0 advantage.
The Jimmie bats erupted in the third inning to break the game open. After Morin was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning,
Adrian Warcken crushed a two-run home run to left field. Shea followed with a single, and
Trayson Kostial drove him in with an RBI double to left.
The scoring barrage continued later in the frame when
Jett Nelson laid down an RBI bunt to score Kostial.
Ben Swennumson then delivered an RBI single, and
Benney Benitez added another run with a bunt single of his own, extending the Jamestown lead to 7-0.
In the fourth, the Jimmies added two more runs. Shea drew a one-out walk, and
Melvin Maldonado delivered a two-run home run to center field, pushing the score to 9-0.
Jamestown tacked on its final two runs in the sixth inning. Maldonado walked with the bases loaded to force in a run, and
Jett Nelson followed with a sacrifice fly.
While the offense was clicking,
Isaac Hanson was masterful on the mound. He allowed just three hits over seven scoreless innings, facing only four batters over the minimum to earn the complete-game victory.

Game One
A late-inning surge by Rockhurst erased an early UJ lead and the Jimmies fell 8-2 in the opening game of the doubleheader.
The Jimmies (0-9) received a strong start on the mound from
Luke Zimmer and held a 2-0 advantage through four and a half innings. However, the Hawks (8-0) rallied for one run in the fifth and exploded for seven runs in the sixth to secure the victory.
Jamestown struck first in the opening frame. After
Mason Shea was hit by a pitch with two outs,
Trayson Kostial ripped an RBI double to put the Jimmies on the board 1-0.
The duo manufactured another run in the top of the third inning. Shea led off with a single, advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt, and then scored when Kostial delivered his second RBI hit of the day, extending the Jamestown lead to 2-0.
Zimmer kept the Rockhurst bats quiet for much of his outing, holding the Hawks hitless until the fifth inning. Rockhurst broke through in the bottom of the fifth when pinch-runner Cal Ramthun scored on an RBI single by Afton Koch to cut the deficit in half.
The game slipped away from the Jimmies in the bottom of the sixth. The Hawks sent 12 batters to the plate, utilizing a combination of five singles, three walks, a wild pitch, and a passed ball to score seven runs. Key RBI singles from Gustavo Leon, Michael Novak, Josh Syfert, and a two-run single from Michael Laudando did the bulk of the damage, giving Rockhurst a sudden 8-2 lead.
Jamestown went down quietly in the seventh against Rockhurst's Jacob Merithew, who pitched a complete game to seal the win.
