SARTELL, Minn. – The University of Jamestown women's tennis team dropped a narrow 4-3 decision to MSU Moorhead on Sunday at the StaFit Tennis Center. With the loss, the Jimmies move to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the NSIC, while the Dragons improve to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
MSU Moorhead secured the pivotal doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Jamestown dominated at the No. 1 spot, where Bodil van Zeijl and Julie van Zeijl blanked Luzmary Diaz and Sophia Felderman 6-0.
However, the Dragons responded on the remaining courts. At No. 2 doubles, Camilla Bonini and Katryna Hansen defeated Anna Sharandachenko and Mariia Sharandachenko 6-3. MSU Moorhead clinched the point at No. 3, as Emma Farder and Autumn Kron defeated Sydney Friesen and Mykaela Jorgenson 6-3.
Jamestown was dominant in its singles victories, dropping only six games combined across three matches. Julie van Zeijl was perfect at No. 1 singles, defeating Luzmary Diaz 6-0, 6-0. Mariia Sharandachenk matched that effort at No. 4 singles, shutting out Emma Farder 6-0, 6-0.
Bodil van Zeijl added a point for the Jimmies at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Katryna Hansen.
MSU Moorhead secured the dual victory with wins at the No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 positions. Sophia Felderman defeated Anna Sharandachenko 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3. Camilla Bonini topped Sydney Friesen 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 , and Autumn Kron defeated Mykaela Jorgenson 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.
The Jimmies are back in action on Sunday, March 15, in a road match against University of Minnesota Morris.
