BISMARCK, N.D. – The University of Jamestown women's basketball team erased a 16-point first-quarter deficit to defeat Mary 69-66 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at the McDowell Activity Center.
The Jimmies (8-18, 6-16 NSIC) utilized a massive third-quarter run and clutch free-throw shooting in the extra period to secure the conference road victory over the hosts (22-9, 15-7 NSIC).
Mary came out firing in the opening period, putting up 31 points to build a commanding 31-15 advantage after the first quarter. The Jimmies locked in defensively in the second quarter, outscoring Mary 9-6, but still found themselves facing a 37-24 halftime deficit.
The game flipped entirely in the third quarter. Jamestown's defense stifled the hosts, allowing just six points in the frame, while the offense erupted for 26 points to storm into the lead, 50-43, heading into the fourth quarter.
Mary fought back in the final 10 minutes of regulation, outscoring Jamestown 17-10 to knot the game at 60-60 and force overtime. In the extra five-minute period, the Jimmies outscored Mary 9-6, sealing the hard-fought victory when Allie Berns sank a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining.
Jessika Lofstrom paced the Jimmie offense with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-18 shooting, adding seven rebounds in 41 minutes of action.
Allie Berns delivered a spectacular two-way performance, registering a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She also stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high four assists, three steals, and two blocks.
Haidyn Crockett contributed nine points and four rebounds in 35 minutes. Hali Savela was active on the glass and defensively, finishing with eight points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
Bergen Kinnebrew led Mary with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Allison Undlin was a major presence inside for the hosts, posting 13 points, 15 rebounds, and an imposing six blocked shots. Chloe Pfau also finished in double figures with 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
The Jimmies recorded 14 steals as a team, led by three steals each from Berns, Savela, Samantha Paulsen, and Jordan Munson. This pressure helped force 19 turnovers by Mary. Jamestown shot an efficient 80 percent from the charity stripe (16-of-20), outscoring Mary, who finished 8-of-10 from the line. The Jimmies controlled the interior scoring, racking up 32 points in the paint compared to 26 for the hosts. Jamestown's reserves outscored Mary's bench 14-11, providing crucial minutes during the comeback effort.
