MIAMI SHORES, FL – The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team wrapped up its morning match-up at the Health & Sports Center on Saturday, battling through three sets against Barry University in Miami Shores. The Jimmies continued to settle in as the match went on, cutting the deficit each set and finishing strongest in the third set, where they pushed the Buccaneers to a 25-19 decision after earlier sets of 25-12 and 25-15.
Jamestown showed its most complete stretch late, building steadier offense and forcing longer rallies as the match progressed. After a challenging opening set, the Jimmies responded with improved execution in set two and carried that momentum into set three, where they produced their best attacking efficiency of the day and stayed within striking distance down the stretch. As a team, Jamestown finished with 19 kills, three service aces, 22 digs, and four total blocks.
The Jimmies were paced offensively by Chase Hawkinson, who recorded five kills, while Ladarius Williams and Joshua Crowley each added four. Lucas Soeldner contributed three kills, and Cohen Johnson added two to keep Jamestown's attack moving. The Jimmies also received steady ball distribution from Kaden Jenkins, who tallied seven assists, while Rowan Shaughnessy added 10 assists as Jamestown continued to adjust its tempo across the three sets.
Defensively, Jamestown worked to extend possessions and keep pressure on Barry's hitters. Amery Roberts led the team with five digs, with Jenkins and Crowley each posting three. Williams added three digs as well, while Jaxton Dawson and Jackson Holmes helped contribute along the back line.
From the service line, the Jimmies created momentum with timely aces from Williams, Soeldner, and Shaughnessy. At the net, Jamestown also produced scoring blocks, highlighted by a solo stop from Roberts. The Jimmies got strong support at the pins from Brady Leppien-Christensen and Jenkins, who each finished with a pair of block assists to help slow down Barry at key points.
Jamestown will look to carry its late-match rhythm forward, building on the improvements shown in the final set as the Jimmies continue into their next match later today.
