Jamestown, N.D. - The University of Jamestown women's soccer suffered a tough defeat at home as they were shutout 3-0 against Wayne State College Friday night at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium.
The Jimmies fall to 4-6-4 overall and 4-4-3 in the Northern Sun. The Wildcats pick up a big three points as they move to 4-4-3 in the conference and 5-6-3 on the season.
Through the first 10 minutes, WSC put on four shots, though two missed and the other two were blocked by Jamestown defenders. After defending their side of the field for a while, Julliet Lopez came down the right side of the field, got deep into the box, but her shot from about five yards out was blocked just in the nick of time.
In the 14th minute, the Wildcats pushed the ball down the field and Olivia Thompson was wide open off a cross from the right side. Although, her shot at point-blank range was blocked by Taylor Musser right in front of the net for the incredible save.
Wayne State largely held the advantage for the rest of the half regarding ball possession and shot attempts, especially for the next 10 minutes when they added five more shots to their total.
At last, in the 29th minute, the Wildcats broke the ice. A free kick from about 35 yards away was placed right into the Jamestown six-yard box, and Jordan Lewis got a head on it before Musser could corral it. The ball went above Musser's head and into the back of the UJ net for the game's first goal.
Julliet Lopez, the Jimmies leading scorer, broke free of a couple of defenders and took a great look just inside the box in the 37th minute in what was the best chance for the Jimmies all half. A diving Alexa Hofstetter make a spectacular save on Lopez's shot. There was a rebound chance for Jamestown as well, but it was whistled off with a foul and UJ could not tie it up.
The Jimmies had three of the games final four shot attempts in the first half, but still lost shots on goal 12-4 after 45 minutes in addition to trailing 1-0. Shots on goal were won by the Wildcats, 3-1, while Jamestown had two corner kicks and WSC one.
Perhaps the best look of the game for the Jimmies came about three minutes into the second half. Emma Belyk raced past the defense and into the right corner of the Wayne State side of the field. Belyk crossed it beautifully just before the goal line with the ball going over the head of Hofstetter and to Langley Grow on the opposite side. However, Grow had a tough angle to get a shot off and ended up hitting the outside of the left post and out of bounds for a goal kick.
This was about the last thing that went well for UJ in the game. In the 49th minute, the Jimmies lost a 50-50 ball in their box and Morgan Mancuso put in a goal into the top right of the net. The Wildcats scored their third goal less than two minutes later off a defensive zone turnover.
After the chance by Grow in the first couple of minutes, the Jimmies only recorded two shots the rest of the game, these by Vega Canada and Gaby Lopez. Both of their shots though outside of the box and did not come close to the target.
The final buzzer sounded in a tough home loss for Jamestown. Julliett Lopez recorded the lone shot on goal for UJ while leading the team in four shots. Musser and Ellie Dake split the halves in between the pipes, posting two and three saves, respectively.
The Jimmies lost shots 22-7 and shots on net 8-1. Corner kicks were nearly even with Jamestown getting three chances and Wayne State four.
UJ will host Augustana University on Sunday, October 18 for senior day in what will be their final home game of the 2026 season. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
