Jimmies downed by No. 2 Minnesota State

MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Jamestown women's basketball team faced a daunting task on Saturday afternoon, taking on the undefeated No.2 Minnesota State Mavericks. Despite a high-scoring second quarter, the Jimmies could not overcome relentless defensive pressure in a 107-60 loss at the Bresnan Arena in the Taylor Center.

The Mavericks (20-0, 14-0 NSIC) forced 35 turnovers and converted them into 40 points to keep their perfect season alive. The loss drops Jamestown to 4-14 overall and 2-12 in the NSIC.

Minnesota State jumped out to an early lead, holding the Jimmies to just seven points in the opening frame while scoring 23 of their own.

UJ found its offensive stride in the second quarter, erupting for 30 points. The Jimmies connected on 10 field goals and went 9-for-13 from the free-throw line in the period, actually outscoring the high-powered Mavericks offense 30-29 in the quarter. However, Minnesota State regained control after halftime, limiting Jamestown to 23 total points in the second half while pulling away for the victory.

Two Jimmies reached double figures in scoring. Haidyn Crockett finished with 10 points and added a steal. Allie Berns also tallied 10 points and battled for eight rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

Jessika Lofstrom was a force on the boards, pulling down a team-high 13 rebounds (five offensive) to go with five points. Jordan Munson facilitated the offense with a game-high six assists and chipped in nine points and three steals.

UJ battled hard on the boards, grabbing 44 rebounds compared to 51 for Minnesota State. The Jimmies secured 16 offensive rebounds in the contest. MSU's defense recorded 22 steals, contributing to the 35 Jamestown turnovers.

Natalie Bremer led the Mavericks with a game-high 25 points on 9-of-20 shooting. Hannah Herzig filled the stat sheet with 14 points, seven assists, and four steals. Minnesota State shot 47.6 percent from the field for the game.

The Jimmies return home to host Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, January 30 at 5:30 p.m.
