JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown wrestling team earned a 23-18 victory over Minot State on Sunday at Harold Newman Arena, powered by three pins and a strong finish in the upper weight classes.
Minot State jumped out to an early lead after claiming forfeit victories at 103 and 110 pounds.
Following a double forfeit at 117 pounds,
Kiera Hagman put the Jimmies on the board at 124 pounds. Hagman wasted little time, pinning Emily Light in just 52 seconds.
Jamestown kept the momentum going at 131 pounds, where
Nora Houglum secured a 6-1 decision over Alyssa Jones.
Minot State responded with back-to-back decision wins at 138 and 145 pounds to put pressure on the home team. However, the Jimmies dominated the final three contested bouts to secure the dual win.
Leah Willard turned the tide at 160 pounds, pinning Madison Parson in 4:58.
At 180 pounds,
Emily Novak delivered a crucial fall, pinning Lillian Garrett in 1:52.
Koiline Govergo sealed the victory at 207 pounds with a tight 1-1 decision win over Aniya Herbin.
The Jimmies will host Bismarck State College for a dual on Friday, January 23, beginning at 2 p.m.
