JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown women's basketball team poured in 27 points in the final quarter but could not overcome a difficult third period, falling 76-66 to Winona State on Saturday evening at Harold Newman Arena.
Despite three players scoring in double figures and a late offensive surge, the Jimmies dropped to 4-12 overall and 2-10 in the NSIC.
Winona State (12-6, 9-3 NSIC) opened the game with a strong first quarter, taking a 20-12 lead. The Jimmies battled back in the second, keeping pace with the Warriors to head into the locker room trailing 36-27 at halftime.
The third quarter proved decisive, as the visitors outscored Jamestown 24-12 to build a commanding 60-39 advantage heading into the final frame. However, the Jimmies refused to quit, mounting a spirited comeback in the fourth. UJ's offense came alive to outscore the Warriors 27-16 in the final 10 minutes, cutting into the deficit before time ran out.
Haidyn Crockett led the Jimmies offensively, tying her career high with 16 points while connecting on four three-pointers, and added four assists and three rebounds. Allie Berns was efficient in the paint, scoring 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting and contributing five rebounds and a team-high three blocks.
Jessika Lofstrom provided a strong interior presence, finishing with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds in 38 minutes of action. Samantha Paulsen chipped in nine points and three assists, while Hali Savela added seven points and five boards.
The Jimmies shot 40.3 percent from the field (25-of-62) and made 10 three-pointers. Winona State shot 41.4 percent (24-of-58) and connected on nine three-point attempts. The Warriors converted 19-of-22 free throws, while the Jimmies made just 6-of-8 attempts.
Sadie Jarmolowicz led Winona State with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Hailey Markworth (14), Megan Schuman (13), and Natalie Meaux (11).
UJ is back in action on Friday, January 23 at St. Cloud State. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
