Jimmies lose road opener at SD Mines

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The University of Jamestown men's soccer team dropped their first road match of the season, a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the South Dakota Mines Hardrockers on Saturday afternoon at Dakota Fields.

The Jimmies (1-1-0) started strong, with Felipe Costa scoring his first goal of the season in the sixth minute. UJ held on to a one-goal advantage for nearly 30 minutes, but the Hardrockers managed to find an equalizer in the 35th minute from Nickolas North, who was assisted by Lucas Cardona.

Out of the halftime break, South Dakota Mines scored three unanswered goals. Alvin Udoto gave his team a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute, with North getting an assist. Parker Yocom put the game away with two quick goals in the 66th and 69 minutes. Kaulden Hood assisted on the final goal.

The Hardrockers held a significant statistical advantage throughout the match, outshooting the Jimmies 17 to 5, with 12 shots on goal to Jamestown's two. South Dakota Mines also had more corner kicks (5-1) and committed more fouls (15-10).

UJ goalkeeper Dawid Chrobot played 69 minutes and made seven saves, while Connor Warren finished out the match, playing the final 21 minutes and making one save. Hardrocker keeper Abdo Salem Abdullah, had just one save.

The Jimmies are back in action on Friday, September 12, when they travel to Laredo, Texas, to face Texas A&M International.
