Jimmies fall to Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. – The University of Jamestown men's soccer team suffered a 9-0 defeat on the road against 20th-ranked Fort Hays State University on Saturday evening at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.

The Tigers controlled the match from the outset, scoring five goals in the first half and adding four more in the second. Fort Hays State's offense peppered the Jimmie goal with 35 shots, 18 of which were on target.

Fort Hays State opened the scoring in the sixth minute and quickly added a second goal in the ninth minute, both scored by Elias Ovelar Semeniuk. The Tigers would go on to score three more times before the halftime whistle.

The home team continued to apply pressure after the break, scoring four more goals, including Ovelar Semeniuk completing his hat trick in the 55th minute.

Despite the lopsided score, the Jimmies battled throughout the match. Kael Calder and Bennet Driesch each registered a shot on goal. UJ was forced to play a man down for the final 32 minutes of the match after Felipe Costa was issued a red card.

Fort Hays State held a commanding 35-3 advantage in total shots and an 18-2 edge in shots on goal. Jimmie goalkeeper Dawid Chrobot was busy all night, making an impressive nine saves in the contest. The Tigers earned 13 corner kicks compared to just one for the Jimmies.

Jamestown (1-5-0) will look to bounce back as they continue their road trip, facing Newman University in Wichita, Kan., Monday at 1 p.m.
