University of Jamestown is excited to announce Gabriel Gohman as the new Head Coach for the Jimmies Esports program. Gohman comes to UJ after a successful tenure at Gustavus Adolphus College, where he played a pivotal role in developing their esports program from student organization to varsity status.Â
Â
Gohman, a recent graduate with a BA in Communication Studies & Philosophy, brings a wealth of experience in team leadership and program building. At Gustavus, he served as co-president and Student Esports Assistant, captaining the Valorant team to back-to-back conference championships and coaching Overwatch 2. He was actively involved in recruiting, onboarding, and mentoring new players, as well as managing broadcasting and campus engagement.Â
Â
"I hope to continue my collegiate esports journey at UJ, using my experience and passion to make the program as successful and welcoming as it can be, and always maintaining a strong emphasis on community," said Gohman. "My first goal for UJ Esports will always be to provide community and a sense of belonging to everyone. Winning is admirable, but building a hardworking, passionate, and uplifting community is an even greater success."Â
Â
Gohman will oversee all aspects of UJ Esports, including team management, recruiting, competition scheduling, social media, and campus collaboration.Â
Â
UJ has a unique place in collegiate esports history. In 2017, UJ became the first university in North Dakota—and one of the first in the nation—to offer a varsity esports program. UJ's commitment to innovation, leadership, and student opportunity has made its esports program a model for others.Â
Â
"Everyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about esports. I want to give every student a chance to share this space and help make a program any high schooler would look for," Gohman added.Â
