Weekly Recap: November 7-11

Weekly Recap November 7th-11th

Overwatch 2 vs Drexel University: Playoffs Round of 6

The UJ Overwatch 2 squad qualified for the East 2 Conference playoffs with a huge win over Oklahoma City University last week. Now in the round of 6, the 6th seeded Jimmies would match up with #3 Drexel University with a spot in the semifinals on the line.

Map 1 on Lijiang Tower was a comfort map pick for the Jimmies, but a slow start would prove to be too large of a deficit for the Jimmies to make up as they would fall 0-2 after getting just over 70% on the control point.

Down 0-1, the Jimmies would take game 2 to King's Row, another map with a lot of experience on part of UJ's roster. Starting on attack, the Jimmies would manage 2 checkpoints plus 48m of insurance halfway through the round. However, Drexel would push the payload through and, through a long team fight, would manage to surpass the Jimmies to take map 2 by a score of 3-2

Going into the final map, the Jimmies would choose to play on Route 66 for escort. Unfortunately, this match would prove to be identical to map 2 with the Jimmies falling 3-2 and losing the series 0-3.

UJ's Overwatch 2 team finishes the season with a record of 2-6 and will be back in action in the NACE Varsity Plus League starting again in February.

Scores:
Map 1 (LiJiang Tower/Control): UJ 0, DU 2
Map 2 (King's Row/Hybrid): UJ 1, DU 2
Map 3 (Route 66/Escort): UJ 2, DU 3

Call of Duty vs Keiser University: Playoffs Round of 6

The UJ Call of Duty team qualified for the East 3 Conference playoffs after an unfortunate 1-3 loss last week to Southeastern Illinois College. Now in the round of 6, the #3 seeded Jimmies would match up with #6 Keiser University for a top-4 qualifier.

Map 1's hardpoint match would be played on Tuscan, a solid pick for the Jimmies. UJ would get off to a great start in this series, holding Keiser to just 64 points and winning the map 250-64. Dawson Mee (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) would lead the way for Jamestown in this map with 15 eliminations and 7 assists.

Map 2 would feature the search and destroy format on Desert Siege, which the Jimmies have seen a lot of success on recently. UJ would take the first 4 rounds but would lose the 5th, making the score 4-1. However, Keiser University would not be able to steal momentum away from the Jimmies as UJ would take rounds 6 and 7, ending map 2 in a score of 6-1. At the top of the leaderboard for UJ in this map would be Aaron Huff (JR/Cleveland, N.D.) with 11 eliminations.

Going into map 3, the Jimmies would need just one more win to take the series. This map would feature the control format on Gavutu with UJ dominating from the start. UJ would win map 3 by a score of 3-0 off great performances from Huff (31 eliminations, 2 assists) and from Ian Weis (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) and Westin Walker (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) with 15 eliminations each.

UJ moves on to the semifinals for a match with #2 seeded Clarke University on Tuesday, November 15th at 7:00pm.

Scores:
Map 1 (Tuscan/Hardpoint): UJ 250, KU 64
Map 2 (Desert Siege/Search and Destroy): UJ 6, KU 1
Map 3 (Gavutu/Control): UJ 3, KU 0

Super Smash Bros vs University of Guam: Playoffs Round of 6
The Jimmies Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team qualified for the West Central Conference playoffs as the #5 seed in the division. This put UJ up against #4 seed University of Guam in the round of 6. Guam got the better of UJ during the regular season, winning the series 2-1 but the Jimmies would look to bounce back with a spot in the semifinals at stake.

UJ would get off to a slow start, losing 9 stocks to Guam's 5 and setting the score at 7 stocks to just 3 for the Jimmies. Peyton Piatz (JR/Oxbow, N.D.) would put in a solid effort for the Jimmies, taking out 2 of Guam's 4 players and tying the series at 3 stocks apiece with a 1 versus 1 contest to decide the first match. However, Guam proved to be too much for the Jimmies to handle and UJ would fall in match 1 by a score of 0-3.

Down 1-0 in a best of 3 series, the Jimmies would bounce back with Piatz taking 6 of Guam's 12 stocks on his own. Combined efforts from Liam Pospisil (FR/Mitchell, S.D.) and Josiah Penn (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) through a late push from Guam would set the series at 3 stocks to 2 and another 1 versus 1 to decide the match. This time, Adrian Nannenga (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) would pull through for Jamestown, losing only 1 stock throughout the game and winning match 2 for UJ by a score of 2-0.

With the series tied 1-1 and heading into match 3, the Jimmies used their momentum from the previous set and took control of the series early. Piatz would lead off for the Jimmies and take an unprecedented 10 stocks out of 12 all by himself. Guam would not be able to fully recover from this deficit and a stock each for Pospisil and Penn would give the Jimmies a 5-0 win in match 3 and a 2-1 series win.

UJ will move on to the semifinals for a match with #1 seeded Boise State University on Thursday, November 17th at 7:30pm.

Scores:
Set 1: UJ 0, UG 3
Set 2: UJ 2, UG 0
Set 3: UJ 5, UG 0
